about

An interpretation of the Rolling Stones' classic 1972 album "Exile On Main St."

Let it be stated from the beginning: we don’t think we’re the Rolling Stones, and we certainly aren’t trying to be. Jon and Russell started The Mudflaps in Southern California in 2001 out of admiration for many bands, first and foremost the Stones. The Mudflaps remained an active band through a revolving door of singers, drummers, and bassists, finally ceasing to be an active band in 2005, but living on in occasional recording projects since. The idea to tackle all of Exile On Main Street had been conceived early on in the life cycle of The Mudflaps, and ambition finally struck in the summer of 2011, 40 years after Nellcote. True to form, the recording and mixing process found a way to take almost a full year, and it’s now in 2012 that we’re ready to unveil the finished product. Here, we pay homage to what may well be the greatest album of all time; not trying to outdo or even replicate, but simply to dissect in reverence.
